Authentic HP Components Can Be Determined Through HP Security Label
To distinguish genuine HP components, look for a blue hologram or a QR code on the HP Security Label. The HP Security Label can be found either on or inside of the product’s packaging.
Examine the Hologram in Blue that is Located on the HP Security Label
When trying to determine whether a part is authentic HP, look at the blue hologram on the HP Security Label.
On the HP Security label, find the hologram that is blue in color.
- In order to verify that the OK and check mark pictures on the blue hologram move in the opposite directions, tilt the label from the top down to the bottom.
- Rotate the label counterclockwise from left to right to check that the pictures of the checkmark and the OK continue to move in the same direction on the blue hologram.
If the images of the OK and check mark do not move in the correct directions when the
label is tilted, the product is most likely a fake.
Run a scan on the Quick Response code located on the HP Security Label
Genuine HP components can be determined by scanning the QR code located on the HP Security Label.
- Locate the Quick Response (QR) code that is printed on the HP Security label.
- Launch an application on your mobile device that can scan QR codes. You can download the application from either the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
- Open the camera app on your smartphone and scan the QR code.
- When the app has finished processing the QR code, compare the numbers that appear on the screen to the Security ID that is printed on the HP Security Label. If the numbers do not match, there is a good chance that the goods are fake.
Determine Whether the Batteries are Authentic
It is highly recommended by HP to only use authentic HP batteries. Problems with both quality and safety could be caused by using batteries that are not genuine HP ones. Examine the labeling, price, and packing of the batteries to determine whether they are authentic.
- Contrast the price of the battery with the price that HP suggests you should pay. If the price of the battery is significantly lower than what is advised by HP, then it is possible that it is a fake.
- For instance, the suggested price for an HP battery is at least $75, but if you find a battery that appears to be an HP battery but only costs $20 or $30, it is possible that the battery is a counterfeit.
- Make sure the packaging is correct. Batteries from HP always arrive in the company’s original packaging. If the battery is just packaged in bubble wrap or comes in a basic, generic wrapper, there is a possibility that it is counterfeit.
Check the label with the tracking number for the battery. The tracking numbers for authentic HP batteries begin with the number 6.
Check the labels for any terms that have been misspelled. If there are misspelled terms on the product, it is possible that it is a fake.
